Settee Transformations

Updated: Oct 10, 2022

What can you do with an antique settee?

I have always loved the graceful lines of these classic settees but I must admit, t see them upholstered in zebra or some other eye catching fabric. But the latest trend is to transform them into fabulous benches. How do you start when you discover one of these gorgeous treasures ... first use your X-ray vision and check out the bones. With a little effort you may end up with a one of a kind focal point for your home that is sure to attract positive comments!

You may need some good woodworking skills on a settee with curved lines but the end result will be stunning. One note, the older we get, the harder it is to rise from low benches. You will see that in the first photo above, the seat has been raised. You may want to consider that. With the proper paint or sealer treatment, these pieces may be ok for a covered, outside area.

But why stop there!

The same techniques can be applied to chairs or even tables. Have fun and enjoy!

What better place to search for an old settee or great old chair than at the Lakewood 400 Antiques Market! The Market is open the 3rd weekend every month and is a glorious treasure hunt sure to delight. You absolutely never know what you may find there! For info Click Here!
