It's a gloomy winter day. I turn from the window and gaze upon my living room. It is also gray. Suddenly, my mind wanders to the poem by British Arthur, Jenny Joseph ... "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple / With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me..."

"Why not," I thought, why can't my living room sofa be purple with a red painting above"

I can do anything I want. It's my house! I can paint it colorful if that is what I want."

At some point in life, we all realize we CAN do anything we want to do. We don't have to live our lives within the lines. It's ok for us to blur the lines, maybe even pound them into sparkles. We can Paint It Colorful. It's our life, our home. Even if they call us a crazy old lady who wears a red dress with a purple hat, and gloves, and jewels, and dines with friends ... it is our life to enjoy!

Humans need color in their lives. We have only to take our clues from Mother Nature who provided us the most exquisite hues possible. Look at other countries, centuries older than America, and you will see their towns and homes painted is bold and brilliant colors. They learned about our need for color long before.

Look Around

Not Ready For A Full Paint It Colorful?

Trust me on this one ... I read every year what designers forecast as style trends. But what is in style is what your heart wants you to surround yourself with. All the things and colors you love. Memories that you want to hold close. Items and colors that inspire you to jump out of bed everyday and take on the world. Pieces that cuddle you and provide warmth while you enjoy a cup of tea. That is your style. And it should be all you.

Start small ... Buy yourself a bright sofa, or new dining room chairs. Paint a treasured antique a wild color that makes your heart sing. Feature a mirror that will make you glow. Paint one wall. Add fabulous art! Change to colorful drapes. Even add colorful pottery to brighten your day. Just make sure it hints to your guest the real you that has been hiding inside.

Don't Forget the Outside

The older I get, the more color I need, inside and outside my home...

Just remember that your home is a reflection of you. Surround yourself with colors and items that make you smile and want to get up every day and enjoy life to the fullest.
