Embracing 2025: DECLUTTERING YOUR HOME
You won't believe how comforting this is. Over the past six months, I began this process after living in my home for 20 years. I tackled it room by room, closet by closet. I discovered items I had placed there two decades ago and never used. I'd send things to the garage for Jeff to discard, but they always seemed to get stuck there, in the garage. He travels to Texas twice a year, so during his last trip, I adopted the motto he goes away, I throw away! I loaded the back of the truck fully with bagged clothes for the Clothes Closet at the church. Two trips to the waste center cleared out 10 large garbage bags of junk. It was exhilarating!
Receiving a new bread maker for Christmas led to a complete reorganization of the kitchen. I didn't actually discard anything, but by rearranging items, I established a general prep area and a baking prep area with extra space. The kitchen has always been one of my favorite spots, but now baking bread is an absolute delight. And indeed, my third loaf turned out quite well, helping me overcome the I'm terrified of this thing feeling! But the 4th was a disaster. So much for thinking I had mastered the little thing!
Now, I actually know where things are in my home and that is a pleasure. There is still the downstairs though ... the remains of all my shops I have had over the years. Too good to toss, but will have to go somewhere if we sell the house. And it looks like Spring will feature a major sale.
I highly suggest you take a little time to declutter your home. You will be amazed how wonderful it feels. Need a little more help? Try these articles:

2025 INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS
I always need to explore the predicted trends for the new year, and this year is no exception. However, interior designers seldom follow these trends, and they are unlikely to appear in your home. As I've often said, your home should mirror your personality and be designed with your needs and desires in mind. The colors should resonate with your soul, the ones that make you glow. Fabrics and textures should feel comforting to the touch. Ambience lighting plays a delightful role in any design, including your home. Above all, make your home a comfortable space for you, your family, and your guests.
However, I do agree with a few suggestions this year. Martha Stewart's Art Beyond The Walls. If you haven't noticed, light fixtures are adopting their own artistic style. Nowadays, there are numerous creative lighting options available that can provide the illumination you envision. Whether crafted from glass or basketry, their unique shapes not only illuminate our eyes but also captivate them.
Another noticeable trend is Cozier Rooms / Quiet Luxury. Everyone enjoys coming home to a plush sofa or chair with soft fabrics perfect for snuggling. You can achieve this look without spending a fortune today. And it seems that fabrics are getting even more plush by the day. Enjoy!
Statement Tiles / Hand Made Tiles are capturing attention, and for good reason. Every tile is crafted by hand, making each one distinct. The colors range from bold to natural, often echoing the traditions of old Europe.
Combining Modern & Vintage Style involves more than simply obtaining a finely made vintage furniture piece to contrast with the clean lines of contemporary designs. Its not just the look, especially when it comes to dressers and cabinets, choosing a classic design is always a wise decision.
I do not expect the White Wall Trend to vanish anytime soon. We certainly have needed brighter environments in our homes over the last four years. However, experts anticipate seeing Saturated Color... a room where everything, including the ceiling and trim, is painted in one deep, bold color. I don't see this happening in most homes, but I do see artwork and accent furniture and accessories adding interest in bright, bold colors. Also, don't be surprised to find your mother's Soft Pink / Peach Shades appearing in personal spaces and as casual cushions on your coziest chair.
Nature will remain a cherished addition to our homes. Plants not only bring health benefits to the air, but they also enhance the ambiance. Warm Wood and Woven Basketry offer an artistic flair while serving as practical storage. Earthy Pottery can be incorporated as a decorative element or used to display dried or fresh flowers. And Brass is the metal color of choice for metals this year.
Make the most of the opportunities in 2025. This year could be the most rewarding, successful, and patriotic time of our lives. Embrace the year wholeheartedly and fully engage yourself. It promises to be an outstanding year for growth. But whatever you do, be thankful for all we have been given and enjoy the journey.
